On Thursday, Feb. 2, Tangled Roots Brewing Company will release a new beer that incorporates mangoes, cilantro, habaneros and chipotle peppers.
The beer was brewed as a collaboration between Tangled Roots brewers and Anna Wright, an event coordinator and tour guide at The Lone Buffalo who wanted to learn more about the brewing process.
“I became interested in brewing beer when I began to learn about the process while training to give brewery tours,” Wright said. “I knew there was a lot I had to learn and figured the best way to do so would be to brew alongside the experts.”
Wright also collaborated on the recipe design, which was inspired by her Mexican heritage.
“My dad has always made Mexican dishes full of pepper flavors that I have enjoyed throughout the years,” she said. “I wanted to incorporate some of those familiar flavors in my beer and thought mango would be a good balance to the peppers, while the cilantro would add a fresh flavor.”
Habanero and chipotle peppers were added during the boil to give this beer a kick of heat and hint of smoked flavor. Mango juice was added after fermentation was complete for a tropical and citrus fruit flavor to balance with the heat.
The final result is a crisp and refreshing beer with a touch of spicy heat.
The beer will be available in the Tap Room, 814 La Salle Street, starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2. It will be $6 for a 16-ounce glass or $10 for a 32-ounce crowler to go.
A special food pairing also will be available with the beer starting at 6 p.m.
