Harvest Beer Dinner At The Lone Buffalo a Smashing Success

Ottawa, Ill.

On Sept. 27 The Lone Buffalo restaurant at 808 La Salle St., held its second beer-paired dinner for 30 guests in the private dining room.

Lone Buffalo Executive Chef Brok Kellogg stated, the beer-paired dinners allow his staff to celebrate the local harvest and what it has to offer.

“We want to give back to the community that has given so much to us,” Kellogg said.

“For these dinners we let the inspiration come naturally. It is important to us to make sure everyone has the same excitement when they leave as we did while preparing the food for them.”

This six-course dinner was paired with beers created by Tangled Roots Brewing Company. Each beer was chosen carefully to highlight flavors in each dish.

This menu featured the following:

  • Bacon Corndog with maple bourbon glaze, pickled chiles paired with Lager
  • Ramen Shooter: handmade noodle, beef broth, quail egg paired with English Mild
  • Seared scallop with brown butter yuzu vinaigrette, shaved radish and pear paired with Peach Kupfer
  • Salad of Compressed Melon: Iberico Ham, Manchego Cheese paired with Wet Hoppeds Cascade
  • Squash Gnocchi with braised oxtail, blistered shallots, fine herbs paired with Oktoberfest
  • Beer Poached Pear with stout fudge, honey and whipped ricotta paired Stout

The menu rivaled any fine dining experience that you might find in any metropolitan city. Kellogg, Chef Scott Seese and Sous Chef Theron Walker, were welcomed with audible gasps over the delicious entrees and presentation.

Kelsey Wiechen, who attended the dinners said, the dinner was “one of the most taste bud-enlightening experiences” she has ever been a part of.

“They are definite contenders in the craft beer scene by offering brilliantly concocted, locally grown, refreshing beer options and a uniquely assembled and taste bud gratifying menu that is on a seasonal rotation,” said Newman, who has attended a variety of food and beverage pairing dinner including a wine barrel tapping in Napa Valley.

The next beer pairing dinner will be scheduled for the end of January with more information to follow. Until then, visit The Lone Buffalo to try the new seasonally inspired fall menu launching on Monday, October 10th. This new fall menu will feature some of the common tastes of fall such as butternut squash.
